An anti-lock braking system (ABS) is an automated safety feature designed to help a vehicle maintain control and stability while braking. It works by constantly monitoring the speed of each vehicle’s wheels. If it detects that one or more of the wheels is about to lock up and stop rotating, it will automatically pulse the brakes on that wheel or wheels, preventing the wheels from locking up.
This allows drivers to bring a stop to the vehicle in emergencies and can be helpful in wet or slippery conditions by preventing the wheels from losing traction and avoiding skidding.
